So, who’s hyped for The Amazing Spider-Man 2? I’m cautiously optimistic.Figured I’d make this to commemorate it. Not one of my better designs, but hey. I know I’m a minority, but I really miss the old suit. Not that the new ones bad, or anything. It’s just… I’ve seen it before. Really uninteresting.

A Li’l Bit Of (#1): Super Mario 3D Land
In this series I’ll be taking bits (and bobs) from the Nintendo universe, and do my best rendering them in Animal Crossing—be it clothing, tiles, or furniture!

What better way to kick it off than with Nintendo’s mascot himself? It’sa me, Mario! You might just recognize these platforms from Island Tour, although they (known as Flip/Snake-Panels) made their debut in Super Mario 3D Land, and were one of many new features I adored in that entry. I couldn’t have rendered them much better if I tried. Never underestimate the importance of detail! I used up to 8 shades of green, alone.

Lemme’ know if you’d like the QR Codes.
What should I render next?

How Animal Crossing’s creepy sheep came to life ⊟

The minds behind Animal Crossing: New Leaf gave a wonderful presentation at the Game Developers Conference about how creating a diverse team — nearly half of the group, led by co-director Aya Kyogoku, were women — helped produce a super successful title with broad appeal. Nintendo has sold over 7.3 million copies, and around 18% of 3DS owners bought the game.

Along with promoting diversity in its team, the group encouraged all of its members to submit their ideas for what to include in New Leaf. That’s why some of the concept images for characters here looks like straight-up DeviantArt uploads. Shout-outs to that corner piece for the sectional sofa, though — that joint changed the game, for real. No shout-outs to Pietro, the terrifying clown sheep. Get out of here, man.

(assuming there’s a cap on the roster)
Look, I get it. I can see the appeal in Mewtwo - He’s one of the darkest characters Game Freak have ever introduced in the Pokemon franchise, and I adore the in-game lore that surrounds him (and his mother) as much as the next veteran. But I’m afraid we’ve seen enough Gen 1 rep. Mewtwo’s appearance in X & Y was totally disappointing. It had no relevance to the plot, and it didn’t do a thing to expand the lore or continue his legacy. He may have been the first to adopt Mega Evolution, but it didn’t lead to anything. It felt contrived. Lucario has had roles in movies, and he had far more presence in X & Y. I don’t care how badass Mewtwo appeared a decade ago… Right now? He’s done nothing to warrant the interest. People default to his return because it’s easier than, y’know, thinking?

I’d just like things to be fair, and I think Sakurai’s given Gens 1/2 enough rep. I don’t see why he should appease fans who’re stuck in the past. I’d rather see Blaziken over Mewtwo - secondary to Lucario & Mewtwo, he was an early adopter of Mega Evolution. He was also given out. He’d function as Gen 3 rep, and he’d be a newcomer. Not to mention, if a Ruby/Sapphire remake is on the way (although I’m skeptical), he’d need a Trainer to activate his Mega Evolution… Who’s to say Hoenn Trainer couldn’t be implied?

Personally, I wouldn’t like to see Jiggles’ return. Not unless they integrate her new Fairy-type (which is the one shred of relevance she’s got left). I’d rather see another Trainer, possibly N, for Gen 5 rep. I admit, it’s a little ambitious… But N utilizes a ton of Pokemon throughout Black & White, and it’d give us a Trainer that’d exceed the standard Fire, Grass, and Water-types.

Naturally, I’ll expect Gen 6 rep with an updated Trainer - Kalos Trainer. I’m indifferent as to which Pokemon he uses, but I’d personally like Greninja, Braixen, and Chespin. They’d all be anthropomorphic too, which’d make more sense with the holds.

Assuming Jiggles holds her spot, here’s what I’d love to see in Smash 4:
Gen 1 > Pikachu
Gen 3 > Blaziken
Gen 4 > Lucario
Gen 5 > Poke Balls
Gen 6 > Trainer

Today, Sakurai finally elaborated on this illusive daily-pic:
imageFeatured in Animal Crossing, and formerly referred to by it’s adopted moniker ‘Smashville Docks’.

image
Sakurai’s caption doesn’t really imply anything, so it’s mechanics remain pretty vague—but interesting none-the-less.

imageImmediately, the puddle indicates the possibility of a periodic submerging.

imageThis is supported by it’s land-mass being extended farther back so it’s inhabitants aren’t engulfed by the tides (especially Leila, seeing as she’s closer to the Kapp’n Shack than Tortimer).

With this we can conclude that the puddle expands, the shore is submerged, and the participants must resort (hurhur) to it’s center… Land-ho!

imageNow, is it just me… Or does that tree look real funky? Different from the one behind it… It’s stout, and even appears to intrude onto the 2D-plain, and what’s that? A lemon? Interesting. What’s more interesting is it’s scale.

image

In New Leaf, there are two types of fruit tree: An Oak tree bears 3 pieces of fruit - one on each “bush” (for lack of a better term)

imageAnd Palm Tree’s (indigenous to shores) - bearing just 2 pieces of fruit beneath it’s leaves.

image

Fruit grow in pairs, and seeing as this bares a single piece of fruit, I’d surmise that this tree will behave as Whispy Woods did in Green Greens - spawning fruit that can either be thrown at enemies, or eaten (to recover health).

Sakurai later comment adds this lil’ tidbit:
image

It’s not the change in layout that’s apparent in his second pic, but instead it’s decoration. Suspiciously, it’s not all that different.
image

Sure, there are some new flowers here and there, it’s land-mass seems wider, and Leila makes an appearance… But it’s shrubs and the former tree (now a stump) are in the same places. This could be a really cool feature, but they’ve gotta’ go all out with it’s randomization when it’s mostly aesthetic, seeing as it’ll be totally negligible when you’re confined to a 2D-plain… Unless multiple fruit-trees can appear.

Whatever happened to ‘Elite Beat Agents’ / ‘Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan’ ?
A legendary series. I’ve been playing Rhythm Thief—which although a lot more musical—is kinda plagued with contrived elements.
